Abstract

Thick film superconductors with the nominal compositions Bi1.75Pb0.25Sr2Ca2.05Cu3.05Ox and Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr1.6Ca2Cu2.8Ox were prepared from prereacted material and an organic vehicle, deposited and fired on Al2O3 and on Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2 substrates. Tc(R=0) was 40 K and 60 K on alumina and 75 K and 96 K on zirconia substrates for Bi1.75Pb0.25Sr2Ca2.05Cu3.05Ox and Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr1.6Ca2Cu2.8Ox compositions, respectively. On zirconia only a very thin (around 3 mu m) layer of (Ca,Sr)ZrO3 formed on the interface between the ceramic and the superconducting film while in the case of alumina substrate the thick film layer reacted with Al2O3 so that the superconducting material was partly destroyed. A superconducting thick film with Tc(R=0) at 102 K was also prepared from the reaction between Bi2O3/PbO (3/2) paste and (Ca,Sr)Cu2O4 substrate. The layer consisted of plate-like crystals, a mixture of low-Tc phase and high-Tc phase, mostly oriented perpendicular to the substrate.
