Abstract

As a medical trainee, I am often asked why I chose oncology. I answer straightforwardly: the ability to provide hope to people with cancer, the excitement of biomedical advances, and the generous mentorship I receive and hope to pay forward. I imagine many peers would agree. However, there is a fourth reason—the lessons I learn from my patients.
