Abstract

Soluble, low transition temperature, liquid crystalline polymers [OArO] 1 [COCH=CHPhO(CH 2 ) 10 OPhCH=CHCO] 1 [OPhCO] Y (Ar = Ph, Ph(NO 2 ), Ph(CHO), Ph(CH 3 ), C 10 H 6 , C 12 H 8 , Y = 0,1) and [OArO] 1 [COCH=CHPhCH=CHCO] 1 [OPhCO] 0.5 (Ar = Ph, Ph(CH 3 ), Ph(CHO), C 10 H 6 , C 12 H 8 ) were prepared by a low temperature solution method. All of them are thermotropic and form nematic or/and smectic phases over broad ranges of temperatures.
