Abstract

Thermal-convective instability in a stellar atmosphere is considered to include the effect of a stable gradient. A criterion for monotonic instability is derived. The thermosolutal convective instability problem in the presence of magnetic field and rotation is also studied. The criterion derived for monotonic instability of the stellar atmosphere is found to hold good, both in the presence of magnetic field as well as rotation, on the thermosolutal-convective instability.
