Abstract

We report on the preparation of temperature sensitive surfaces by plasma polymerization (pp) of N, N-diethylacrylamide (DEA). The chemical composition of the resulting ppDEA films was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A higher retention of monomer structure could be achieved by reducing the plasma input power. The temperature sensitivity of the ppDEA films was shown by atomic force microscopy and water contact angle measurements. Its phase transition temperature was found to lie between 38 and 41 °C.
