Abstract

1. 1. Head-body temperature differences were demonstrated to occur with radiant heating in the laboratory in Liasis childreni, L. fuscus, Aspidites melanocephalus and Morelia spilotes variegata. 2. 2. Head-body temperature differences were also recorded in L. childreni during heating from solar radiation while in a large outdoor enclosure. 3. 3. In all species head temperature was found to be more precisely regulated by both physical and physiological means. 4. 4. Thermal preferenda for both head and body temperature are reported for each species with radiant heating and for L. amethystinus in natural field conditions using radio telemetry for recording body temperature.
