Abstract

Thermoluminescence (TL) in sintered CaF 2 doped with Tb 4 O 7 induced by ultraviolet (UV) radiation was studied. To improve TL intensity, pellets of CaF 2 :Tb were sintered at 1373 K, 1473 K and 1573 K, respectively. Three TL glow peaks were observed at 353 K, 378 K and 458 K. The intensity of the 458 K TL peak of the sample sintered at 1573 K was 13 times that of the sample sintered at 1373 K. The X ray diffraction pattern showed that the sample sintered at 1373 K for 4 h displayed the structure of Ca(OH)2 phase in addition to that of CaF 2 phase, and that the sample sintered at 1573 K for 3 h displayed only the CaO phase. The 458 K TL peak in CaO:Tb may be suitable for UV radiation dosimetry.
