Abstract

In this paper we propose a two-component (or two-subsystem) model to describe the thermoelectric power and the Hall coefficient in the normal state of high- T c cuprate superconductors (HTS). The results are consistent with the experiments. The essential point of the normal state in HTS is that there are two subsystems (or two components). One is the itinerant single carriers, similar to the free carriers, and the other is the nearly local pair subsystem whose negative correlation energy is temperature dependent. This two-subsystem assembly is a new metallic state of the metal.
