Abstract

The thermoelectric characteristics of binary alloys of nickel were investigated. It was found that the absolute thermoelectric power S of the binary alloys of nickel is dependent on the electron concentration of the alloy. The positive maxima of S of all binary alloys studied occur at a common electron concentration of 9.6 electrons/atom. The negative maximum occurs at 10.6 electrons/atom. These observations are not necessarily accounted for by existing theories on thermal e.m.f.
