Abstract

The thermodynamics of Wigner crystallization is considered. The melting curve in the classical regime is p=AT4. In the T=0 limit, the change in potential energy is related to the volume change. A dimensional argument is given to show that in four dimensions, the melting curve in the rho -T plane is given by T=K rho 12/, a fully quantal result. Finally, a schematic plot of critical density versus dimensionality is achieved.
