Abstract
From measurements on the gaseous equilibrium COCl 2 = CO + Cl 2 in the temperature range 635 to 760 K, ΔH o(298 K) is calculated to be (25.95 ± 0.10) kcal mol −1. This reaction provides an enthalpy of formation ΔH f o(COCl 2,g,298 K) = −(52.37 ± 0.14) kcal mol −1, which is in excellent agreement with the work of Bodenstein and Plaut.
