Abstract

The solubility of oxygen in molten Ti-Al and Zr-Al alloys equilibrated with solid Al 2 O 3 or ZrO 2 was measured from 1673 to 1973 K. The standard Gibbs energies for the reactions of A1203(s) = 2A1 (1, in Ti-Al alloy) + 30 (mass pct, in Ti-Al alloy) and ZrO 2 (s) = Zr (1, in Zr-Al alloy) + 20 (mass pct, in Zr-Al alloy) were determined as a function of temperature. The standard Gibbs energies of the dissolution of oxygen into molten titanium and zirconium were obtained by applying the regular solution model to the Ti-Al-O and Zr-Al-O systems.
