Abstract
The thermodynamics of the Mg-Zn-RE system solutions were studied. It was found that Mg-Zn and Mg-Y systems have small negative deviations from Raoult's Law, while the Y-Zn and Nd-Zn systems have very strong negative deviations. The thermodynamical nature of other systems were also reviewed and similar results were deducted. It is suggested that the strong interactions between at least two components may cause the thermodynamical nature of solutions, from which the stable quasicrystals are formed.
