Abstract

Chloride-nitrate, chloride-thiocyanate and thiocyanate-nitrate ion exchanges on hydrous zirconium oxide have studied at 25°C in solutions of constant ionic strength (0·1 M) and at constant hydrogen ion concentration (0·01 M). Thermodynamic equilibrium constants for the exchange process RA + B − ⇌ RB + A − have been calculated using the method of Gaines and Thomas and are shown to follow the triangle rule, indicating true thermodynamic exchange.
