Abstract

A NMR study of the equilibrium reaction of HF with aqueous phosphorous acid between 8 and 65°C and various hydrogen ions concentrations gave values of Δ G ⊝ = 2.2 kJ, Δ H ⊝ = −26 kJ and Δ S ⊝ = −94 J K −1 for the acid ionization of monofluorophosphorous acid and Δ G ⊝ = −16.2 kJ, Δ H ⊝ = −16.9 kJ and Δ S ⊝ = −2.2 J K −1 for the hydrolysis of monofluorophosphorous acid to phosphorous acid and HF.
