Abstract

A theory based on rational thermodynamics and statistical mechanics for a binary mixture of a noble gas and a molecular gas with vibrating molecules is developed. The problem concerning the propagation of plane harmonic waves of small amplitudes is investigated in the limit of low frequencies. Constitutive equations for a linear irreversible thermodynamic theory and the Onsager relations are also analyzed.
