Abstract

We determined the Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of formation for CdTe-HgTe, ZnTe-CdTe, ZnTe-HgTe, and ZnSb-CdSb solid solutions by measuring the emf of high-temperature galvanic cells. All the investigated solid solutions show positive deviations from Raoult's law. The thermodynamic stability of all the solid solutions decreases with decreasing temperature, and the energetics of formation depends on the interaction between the components of the metallic sublattice.
