Abstract

Excess enthalpies of n-hexane + diethyl oxalate, + diethyl malonate, + diethyl succinate, + diethyl glutarate, + diethyl adipate, + diethyl pimelate, + diethyl sebacate, and + dimethyl glutarate have been measured at 303.15 K. The results obtained show a decrease in the excess enthalpy as the separation between the CO 2 groups increases, except for diethyl malonate which shows an inversion. This decrease might be explained by assuming an “internal dilution effect” of the carboxylate groups.
