Abstract

An analytic solution of the Percus-Yevick equation for the hard-sphere model of a liquid is used to investigate the thermodynamic properties of liquid metals near the triple point. The temperature dependence of the packing fraction (or hard-sphere diameter) is introduced by the phenomenological method using the compressibility equation. Agreement between theory and experiment is improved for both the thermal pressure coefficient and specific heat.
