Abstract

Solid + liquid phase diagrams for dimethylsulfoxide ( dmso ) + halomethane mixtures have been obtained. With chloroform and bromoform the diagrams show the existence of one congruently-melting compound, while for methylene chloride the diagram suggests the presence of one incongruently-melting compound. With methylene bromide and carbon tetrachloride no compounds are observed. The i.r. study of the first four mixtures by the method of Lascombe shows clearly the existence of two complexes in each system of 1-1 and 1–2 stoichiometry. The results are discussed with regard to the excess volumes previously published.
