Abstract

Ther modynamic properties of oxygen in liquid Fe−Co and Fe−Ni binary mixtures have been investigated by equilibration with appropriate mixtures of H2 and H2O. The results show that Henry's law is obeyed by dissolved oxygen at all the possible concentrations of oxygen in each binary mixture. The standard Gibbs energy of solution of oxygen ΔGQ° has been presented as a function of temperature for various binary compositions. The variation of ΔGQ° with composition at 1550°C for each system follows a theoretical correlation based on a new treatment of the first approximation to the regular solutions.
