Abstract

A-priori modelling framework of task-specific ionic liquid (TSIL)-bitumen system has been established. The TSIL is also referred as new generation IL. Various physico-chemical properties including density, surface tension, viscosity, and solubility parameter are predicted for various pure TSIL, bitumen, and TSIL-bitumen mixture. The bitumen samples taken under consideration are mainly from the Canadian region. Hence, this work provides a qualitative comparative analysis of bitumen extraction efficiency obtained from various TSIL over bitumen samples from oil sands of the Canadian region. The modified Lydersen-Joback-Reid method has been used to compute the critical properties of TSIL and bitumen fractions. Further equation of state models are used to predict the density and solubility of the same. Cubic equation of state (EoS) and geometric similitude concept have been applied to predict the surface tension and viscosity. Hence, the modelling framework elaborated in this study will serve as a connecting link between the existing data and the upcoming development.
