Abstract

The thermodynamic behaviour of bulk metallic glass forming melts have been studied by analyzing the temperature dependence of the Gibbs free energy difference Δ G, entropy difference Δ S and enthalpy difference Δ H between the undercooled melts and corresponding equilibrium solid phases. The study is made by calculating Δ G, Δ S and Δ H in the entire temperature range T m to T g for five samples Mg 65Cu 25Y 10, Cu 47Ti 34Zr 11Ni 8, Zr 46Cu 46Al 8, Zr 46(Cu 4.5/5.5Ag 1/1.5) 46Al 8, Zr 57Cu 15.4Ni 12.6Al 10Nb 5 and it is found that the calculated values of these thermodynamic parameters are very close to the experimental values, where T m and T g are melting temperature and glass transition temperature, respectively.
