Abstract

A procedure is presented for the thermodynamic analysis of a combined naturally aspirated diesel engine with precooling and absorption refrigeration machine. With the aid of the laws of thermodynamics, the amount of net work, efficiency and the temperature of the exhaust gases of a diesel engine (ideal cycle) as a function of pressure ratio and temperature ratio of the cycle have been calculated. The amount of energy required for precooling and the amount of cooling capacity available which can be used for air-conditioning purposes are calculated.
