Abstract

This article reports on oxidation experiments performed on a model mixture of air with B-70 gasoline vapor (4-17 g/m/sup 3/) in an integral flow reactor with various thicknesses of the catalyst bed, oxidation temperatures, and feed rates of the model mixture. Uses AP-56 platinum catalysts and the oxide catalysts iron-chromium, copper-chromium, and nickel. Recommends the iron-chromium catalyst for the treatment of the vapor-air mixture to remove B-70 gasoline vapor, since this catalyst gives a high degree of purification at 350-400 C. Suggests that it is also advisable to use the iron-chromium catalyst for the oxidation of other organic compounds that are frequently encountered in industrial discharges (e.g., methyl methacrylate and isopropylbenzene).
