Abstract

The effect of thermodiffusion on the onset of thermocapillary instability in the presence of a surfactant is investigated with reference to a plane liquid layer. It is shown that taking the Soret effect into account leads to destabilization in the case of heating of both the rigid surface and the free boundary.
