Abstract

The current investigation examined the impact of thermo-physical characteristics on the coefficient of performance (COP) came about through incorporation of (1–4) vol% Al2O3 nanoparticles in R-141b refrigerant at 10–35 °C temperature. The investigation improved the condition for a constant mass fluidity in a smooth horizontal tube utilizing conventional connections. The obtained results indicated improvement in density, dynamic viscosity, and thermal conductivity of Al2O3/R-141b nano-refrigerant around 11.54%, 12.63%, and 28.88%, respectively, associated with the base refrigerant (R-141b) for a similar volume fraction and temperature (4 vol% and 35 °C). In contrast, the value of the specific heat for the nano-refrigerant was less than the specific heat value of R-141b. Moreover, Al2O3/R-141b nano-refrigerant demonstrates the most noteworthy COP of 2.65%, 15.13%, and 3.3% for specific heat capacity, thermal conductivity, and density, in comparison to R-141b. Consequently, the use of nano-particles in air-conditioning and refrigeration systems has the potential to enhance their efficiency.
