Abstract

AbstractA composite structure is proposed by combining a thermochromic oxide with a fishnet structure, which is a metamaterial with tunable negative refractive index that is clearly observed for some special wavelength band for the proposed structure. The negative refractive index is attributed to the excitation of internal surface plasmonic polaritons. The spectral negative refractive index can be self‐regulated with the temperature, which is of significant importance to extend the applications of negative index materials. It is also demonstrated that the wavelength region with negative refractive index can be designed to locate at desired position by dexterously tailoring the structural parameters. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
