Abstract
The effect of temperature change on the short-circuit current through metal/Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film/metal structures of Ag/22-tricosenoic acid multilayers/(Mg/Ag) junctions has been studied. The short-circuit current was observed to increase dramatically with the initial temperature rise (20–60 °C) but fell off steadily with time once the junction had reached temperature equilibrium at the higher value. After many successive temperature sweeps the short-circuit current was reduced to a lower, equilibrium value which was then monitored as a function of temperature over the above temperature range. By plotting ln I against 1/ T the gradient yielded approximate values for an excitation energy. When the junctions were maintained at biases of ±0.5 V it was observed that there was a significant decrease in the noise levels of the current after heating compared with before. This was attributed to a reorganization of the LB layers due to the above heat treatment.
