Abstract

Electron stimulated desorption of O- has been observed from oxygen on platinum. Negative ion ESD is not observed during oxygen uptake at 300 K. However, O- emission occurs during heating after oxygen exposure. Comparison is made with previously measured O+ ESD from this system. The negative ion results are discussed in terms of electron attachment and polar dissociation mechanisms. An ion energy distribution for O- is also presented which exhibits a peak considerably broader than the previously measured O+ IED.
