Abstract

Artistic view depicting what will happen inside steels in future fusion reactors: heat and atomic displacements due to neutron irradiation can induce Cr-rich α′ precipitates causing embrittlement. The article, number 2100909, by Robin Schäublin and co-workers, describes thermally treated Fe–Cr model alloys investigated mainly by transmission electron microscopy, revealing α′ precipitates (bottom-right inset). A link to hardening was successfully established.
