Abstract

The magnetization density in the intermetallic compound Y 2Co 7 has been studied by polarized neutron diffraction. A partial collapse on some cobalt atoms is observed from 2 K to 280 K at which temperature metamagnetic instabilities are thus evidenced. These instabilities manifest through large longitudinal spin fluctuations responsible for anomalous thermal variations of anisotropy constants.
