Abstract
Summary This paper describes the use of guarded hotplates to obtain experimentally the thermal transmission coefficients of double-glazed and double-sashed window units. The construction of the plates, the setting up of the experiments and the recording of temperature are a!so described. The importance of deriving a “composite” U-value of a unit, with reference to the areas of window frame and glass areas, is emphasised.
