Abstract

Present study is intended on the thermal behaviour of the free base aqueous porphyrin and the corresponding metalloporphyrins of some of the transition metal ions such as Cu, Ag and Mn. The respective porphyrins were synthesized and characterized by ultra violet-visible spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and high-resolution mass spectrometry. These porphyrins thus obtained were then subjected to thermal analysis from room temperature to 800 ºC. It was observed that free-base porphyrin tetrasodium meso-tetra (p-sulphonatophenyl) porphyrin (TPPS4) is stable up to 360 ºC and remaining metalloporphyrins are stable in the range of 435-460 ºC, respectively. Further, the hygroscopic porphyrins were subjected to fixation of number of water molecules of crystallization and quantitative analysis with respect to % of metal oxide, % of Na+, % SO4 2- and % coal respectively.
