Abstract

The results of thermogravimetric analysis suggest that the thermal decomposition of manganese myristate is kinetically of zero order with an activation energy of about 6.9-8.7kcal mol -1 . For soap solutions in a benzene-methanol mixture (50%, v/v), the plots of various physical properties viz. specific conductance (k), density (p), viscosity (η), as a function of concentration, c (mol dm -3 ) are all found to intersect at the critical micellar concentration, c.m.c. (3.6 x 10 -3 mol dm -3 ). The conductance determinations of the soap solutions were used to determine the degree of dissociation, (0.34-0.47), the dissociation constant, K D (2.8-3.1x10 -6 ) and the limiting molar conductance, μ 0 (13.9mho cm 2 /g-eq). The density results were explained on the basis of Roots equation while the well-known equations of Einstein, Vand, Moulik and Jones-Dole were used to get information on various types of interactions that might be going on in these solutions.
