Abstract

Hybrid rocket fuels are safer and have unique operational and handling features compared to conventional rocket fuels. Here, an attempt to improve the thermal stability and combustion performance of blended fuel Beeswax with Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) and activated charcoal has been tried. The weight percentage of EVA was varied from 10 to 20% in the formulation and the activated charcoal by 1 to 2%. Thermal stability characteristics of Beeswax-EVA based fuel samples were studied through TG/DTG/DSC experiments and the kinetic analysis. TG analysis reveals that the addition of EVA (10% to 20%) gives a good improvement in thermal stability. The TG-DTG results an enhancement in the combustion parameter's values and DSC analysis reveals that the addition of EVA improves the combustion enthalpy. The addition of EVA and activated charcoal decreases the activation energy by 29.5-65.3% providing ease in burning with the lower required energy for reactants.
