Abstract

A study has been made of the thermal relaxation between powdered cerium magnesium nitrate (CMN) and liquid 3He following a step change in the temperature of the CMN. Results are presented for a one component powder (55±20 μm) which shows true exponential decay and a two component powder (55±20 and 215±35 μm) which does not. The results agree with a model which identifies the total resistance between the CMN and liquid 3He with the spin-lattice resistance within the CMN.
