Abstract

The thermal quenching of 3.0-eV photoluminescence (PL) in oxygen-deficient α-Al2O3 single crystals upon preliminary UV irradiation has been studied. It is established that the parameters of the PL quenching kinetics vary within broad limits depending on the duration of UV pretreatment. The compensation effect related to a change in the energy state of the thermodynamic system “F-centers-electron traps” has been observed.
