Abstract

The effects of different inclination angles of plus shape turbulator (PST) at various Reynolds numbers inside straight pipe are presented in this research article. The fluid used for this study is atmospheric air at 30° temperature. Five different inclination angle arrangements of PST ranging from 0° to 25° at Reynolds number in the range of 6000 to 24,000 are simulated using Ansys Fluent software and validated using experimental setup. Parameters like blockage area of 40% and pitch to diameter ratio of 2 were fixed to study effects of parameters like inclination angle and Reynolds number on heat transfer. The results show that an arrangement of turbulator at 24,000 Re and 25° inclination of turbulator gives highest heat transfer than any other arrangements of turbulator in given study. The increase in Nusselt number is due to splitting the fluid flow in four ways.
