Abstract

The results on the laser emission characteristics of a pulsed Q-switched Nd:YAG laser using an unstable resonator and variable reflectivity mirrors (VRM) as output couplers are presented. If at low frequency repetition rate the configuration could provide diffraction-limited high power beams with smooth transverse profiles, at high rates beams quality is affected. A design procedure that allows thermal effects compensation was investigated and the results are reported.
