Abstract
The thermal lens model is developed to predict the thermal nonlinear phase shift and convection velocity of a liquid sample based on the self-phase modulation effect in the presence of a convective heat process. This analysis will be useful to study the liquid flow for prediction of the thermal convection velocity. To clarify, thermal lens measurements are investigated under a chopped laser beam passing through a cell containing a solution of dye with and without natural convection heat flow. The experimental data verify the prediction of the time evolution of the far-field on-axis intensity of the laser beam in the thermal lens model.
