Abstract
Describes some field studies by the technique of air-borne infra-red line scanning (IRLS) in the Netherlands, with a theoretical introduction. The discussion covers the properties of 'warm' and 'cold' soils, the influence of vegetation cover, wind patterns, and the timing of flights. The studies include one on the location of frost hollows in sand-dune country SE of Barneveld, extensively afforested with Pinus sylvestris, where Pseudotsuga menziesii has suffered frost damage.
