Abstract

The recent emphasis on energy conservation has resulted in an increase in urban surveys utilizing infrared scanning systems to obtain surrogates of roof temperatures. The imagery obtained can be used to estimate about five levels of heat loss provided proper safeguards are observed. The paper shows attainable goals and sets reasonable specifications that may be applied to aerial thermal energy surveys. Results from this type survey are shown for residential areas and for a major educational complex.
