Abstract

Poly(methyloctylsiloxane), PMOS, can be thermally immobilized in porous silica particles at temperatures of 80 to 150°C to produce monolayer stationary phases and efficient reversed phase columns. Thermal immobilization at higher temperatures (180–280°C) produces thicker (“bi-layer”) stationary phases with much lower HPLC efficiencies — in marked contrast to the efficient “bi-layer” stationary phases previously obtained by gamma-radiation immobilization of PMOS.
