Abstract

Thermal expansion on CeNi 0.8Pt 0.2 polycrystalline samples has been studied by means of strain gauges and neutron thermodiffractometry in the 2–300 K temperature range. From the magnetic contribution, we obtain information about the Grüneisen parameter, the crystalline electric field (CEF) splitting and the Kondo character of this compound. The neutron diffraction patterns show the coexistence of two phases with the same crystallographic structure over the whole temperature range studied.
