Abstract

We report on measurements of the thermal expansion and magnetostriction of a CePtSn single crystal along the b-axis in magnetic fields up to 14 T applied also along b. The experiment was performed for the temperature range 2–14 K using a capacitance dilatometric cell. In the thermal expansion in magnetic fields up to 2.5 T the magnetic phase transition between T N (∼8 K) and T M (5 K) state is visible due to a distinct change in the slope of d l/ l. vs. T plot. The step-like anomalies at 4 T (negative) and 11 T (positive) in magnetostriction data collected at 2 K reflect the metamagnetic transitions reported previously.
