Abstract

The thermal evolution of very thin Pt films deposited on Ni(111) has been studied by photoemission of adsorbed xenon and measurements of the macroscopic work function. The observed surface electronic structure has been correlated with structural and compositional changes occurring during low temperature annealing. Evidence for a number of distinct surface domains has been found.
