Abstract
The temperature variations due to elastic-plastic deformations are both calculated and measured, for the notch zone of a Compact Tension specimen subjected to monotonic loading. The finite element calculation adopts standard models of the plastic flow and the simplest model of the thermoplastic effect. The agreement between calculations and measurements is very good in the thermoelastic regime, and generally good in the thermoplastic regime; a global confirmation is thus obtained for the ensemble of the adopted models. Local discrepancies are discussed, and found consistent with the limitations of the model.
