Abstract

Photonic crystals (PC) are structures with favorable propagation characteristic since they prohibit the passage of electromagnetic radiation in certain frequencies exhibiting photonic band gaps (PBG). In this work, the transmittivity of resonant cavities was analyzed in photonic crystal composed of crystals including defects. The simulation was based on the finite element method. The resulting transmittance was analyzed considering the effects of temperature on the photonic crystal cavity, thus, thermo-optical coefficients and thermal expansion coefficients of the materials used in the photonic crystal cavity were considered. As the temperature changes, a shift in the confinement of the modes to a specific wavelength is observed.
