Abstract

A two-beam photoacoustic method to find the thermal diffusivity of solid materials by using a specially designed photoacoustic cell having the provision of front and rear surface illumination of the sample has been described. Thermal diffusivities of aluminium, polycrystalline silicon, and nickel manganite samples obtained from phase-lag measurements of the photoacoustic signal generated by front and rear surface illuminations of the sample as a function of the modulation frequency of the argon ion laser radiation are reported.
